Chili Picante

Chili is a hot topic, especially during football season! Make your next batch the talk of the table when you spice it up with Abuelo’s Secret Sauce!

Serves: 6-8 | Cook Time: 45 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs ground beef

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 yellow onion

  • 3-4 cloves of garlic

  • 3 tbsp chili powder

  • 2 tsp paprika

  • 1 tbsp cumin

  • 1 tsp all spice

  • 2 tsp salt (more or less to taste)

  • 2 tsp black pepper (more or less to taste)

  • 1 can each of dark red, light red, pinto and navy beans (do not drain the liquid)

  • 1 can (28 oz) of crushed tomatoes

  • 1 can of diced green chilis

  • Abuelo’s Secret Sauce (more or less to taste)

Heat olive oil in a medium pan while you dice your yellow onion and garlic. Once the oil is hot, sauté the onions and garlic until the onions are semi-translucent. Toss in the ground beef and brown. Once the meat is browned, add your spices to coat the meat (chili powder, paprika, cumin, all spice, salt, pepper). Pour in your tomatoes, beans, and green chilis and bring to a simmer. Add your Abuelo’s Secret Sauce to bring the chili to life! We like it HOT so we add 2 tablespoons. We recommend starting with 1 tablespoon and adding more from there. Let the flavors simmer for about 5 minutes and serve in a bowl with all of your favorite chili accoutrements. Sometimes we get WILD and whip up a box of Velveeta Shells and Cheese (aka Liquid Gold) to add to the bowl, otherwise we like it with a dollop of sour cream, a sprinkle of cheddar cheese, and some chopped green onion, and of course another few drops of A.S.S. to really bump up the flavor!
